Grading:
The breakdown of grades is as follows:
Behaviour Expectations
Students with behavioural issues may not be considered eligible to take the Leadership class. Being in the class states to the rest of the school community that you are a role model for others to look up to. Please review the student handbook for more details around student code of conduct.
Journals
As a class we will be watching a thought provoking video that is in relation to leadership. Students are asked to reflect upon their experiences in life and during the duration of the course around different topics and questions. Students are expected to reflect deeply around the question and respond in a way that shows student growth.
Work Quality and Deadlines
The leadership course will be filled with personal and class led projects. There will be many deadlines that need to be met over the duration of the courses. Completing tasks on time is important not only in your leadership class but in the business and professional world as well. The quality of the work being done is just as important. Late projects will lose points for everyday they are late. Please keep in mind the deadlines and quality of the work may effect the entire project and other student grades as most projects are done as a team.
Leadership Portfolio
The class does not necessarily have homework every night; however, the majority of the projects taken on by the class will require devoted time outside of the classroom for completion. This may include finishing tasks, researching, event planning, meetings, etc. The Leadership Portfolio is your way of documenting all of the hard work you are putting through for the course. There is no particular format for the portfolio, just as long as your teachers can understand and see the amount of work you put through. Think of the portfolio as a way of showing off your work and shining. Your portfolio is due at the end of every month for review and grading. You will build upon your portfolio for the duration of the semester, potentially all year long.
Grade Average
As a part of leadership, students are expected to work towards an 80% average across all classes. Twice a month students will complete a grade check for all of their classes and have an academic conference with Ms. Elkadri and/or Ms. Elkestawi. If needed, academic interventions will take place for students whose average is below 80%.
In the case of missed classes or assignments due to field trips and other leadership events, students are required to take the appropriate measures towards completing work due prior to leaving on the trip unless permission has been granted by the teacher of setting an alternative date.
Absences and Late Work
Students, who have excused absences, are responsible to make up all classwork missed in a timely fashion, within a day of returning to school, unless otherwise specified by the teacher. Students with significant absences may not be eligible for taking the Leadership class as this will hinder their final grade.
Communication
